Last year, the Ouachita Parish Public Library’s Genealogy and Special Collections Department applied for and won a Rebirth Public Library grant* from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Our project was to create a virtual cemetery tour of some of the burials in Hasley cemetery, West Monroe. The fruits of that labor are now available to the public. You can use your phone to go to www.oplib.org/hasley and watch videos about some of the cemetery “residents” from the comfort of your chair or print out the brochure, follow the map and visit the headstones in person! Copies of the brochures will soon be available at all Ouachita Parish Public Library branches as well. You will learn about some of the area’s most important historical figures, such as Henry Carroll, Julia Wossman, Ike Hamilton and Phinetta Hasley! Fall is a wonderful time to wander this beautiful cemetery, so get out there and enjoy!

Thanks for this information. Before I was born, my mom and dad lived in a house near the cemetery and she used to talk about how they would walk through the peaceful, hilly cemetery on Sunday afternoons. Fast forward many years and I still have never been in there. But I plan to go and explore some of these gravestones and others. I appreciate the guide.
Also thanks for your help yesterday with the coincidental birth and death dates in my family tree. There is a story in that coincidence, I just have to let it brew for a while until it comes forth.
