War of 1812 Pension Records

Up until 2008, War of 1812 Pension files kept at the National Archives, were not available anywhere except the Archives themselves. They hadn’t even been microfilmed. The Archives approached the Federation of Genealogical Societies (now part of NGS) for help in preserving them. FGS got help from many other sources to help with the expense and began the digitization process. As of right now, the project is complete up to the U surnames. If you have a War of 1812 ancestor, you can take a look at the records for free here:
