Minnie Market Ruffin

Minnie Markette was born in MS in the year 1870. On Dec. 26, 1895 in Water Valley, MS, she married Tom Ruffin. The couple had no children. After her husband died in 1907, she moved to Louisiana and served in the Monroe school system, later as principal of Neville High School. She also was a co-founder of Monroe’s Little Theater. She died January 29, 1945 in Monroe and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis, TN. A school was named for her in 1961.
