The First DAR Chapter in Ouachita Parish

D.A.D.’s [sic] Organized.

On Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Graham Surghnor, the organizer, a chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was formally launched.

Mrs. Surghnor was empowered by the board of management at Memorial Continental Hall, Washington, D.C., of the National Society to appoint officers for the ensuing year which she named as follows:

Regent, Mrs. Surghnor; first vice regent, Mrs. L.K. Ridley ; recording secretary, Mrs. S. Wood Brown; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Percy Sandel; treasurer, Mrs. T.O. Brown; registrar, Mrs. F.P. Stubbs; historian, Mrs. J.H. Trousdale; custodian, Mrs. J.R. Wooten.

Charter members, besides those mentioned are: Mesdames G.P. Stubbs, Joe Renwick, J.J. Herring, W.F. Latham, Dr. Cecelia Evans, A.D. Nichols, Genie Layton, R.L. Morris, A.J. Herring, Bradley Waelder, E.L. Oowen [sic].

The name of the new chapter as selected is “Fort Miro,” which was approved by the national board with a request for a short history, which at an early date will be forwarded.

The organizer was assisted by Mrs. Peter Youree of Shreveport, State regent.

The next meeting will be held with Mrs. J.H. Trousdale, when the by-laws and constitution will be acted upon, the first three officers being a committee to formulate same. All who desire membership in the “Fort Miro” Chapter, D.A.R.’s can apply to the organizer and receive application blanks.
