The Ouachita Guards

Did you know Monroe had a National Guard way back in the 1890’s? They were called the Ouachita Guards. Below is a picture of the commanding officers and their “sponsor” who was chosen by the men. The first sponsor was Anna Tucker Stubbs. She passed away in 1896 at the age of 20. Miss Vance was chosen as the new sponsor.
