Last week, I saw this Monroe postcard come up for sale. It was so random, I had to get it!

On the back of it stated it was for Trianon Restaurant at the corner of Highways 80 and 165. I guess they were advertising how fresh their beef selection was!!??? Mountains in the background really don’t scream, “Louisiana”!
The earliest reference I found to the restaurant was in late 1951, where they were looking for two waitresses. The address was 3222 Louisville I also see 3221 and 3223 in ads. From what I can tell, that is the tip of the point where Louisville and DeSiard meet, next to the barber shop. I remember in college a great Mexican restaurant, Cucos, sat there, which has long since been torn down. I haven’t been able to find as good a fajita salad since. Moving on…
I found an obituary that states Elizabeth Rose Bennett (Rosie) and her husband Wayne McDonald owned and operated the Tiranon from 1951 to 1956. Apparently College President Slator begged Mrs. Rosie to operate the college cafeteria after the football team upended their food trays to protest the food quality! The last ad I see for Trianon was in 1960. I really don’t see when it closed.

1959 ad.
