The Paramount Theater is Torn Down

This clipping from 1975 just makes me MAD! It is the epitome of the lyrics, “They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot.”

Yes, understand. The train station has been demolished. Two Monroe landmarks, for sure. Wonder which city official genius thought of that?

I have always been told it was Jack Howard’s idea to “revitalize” downtown by adding more parking. Then the Twin City Mall came and put the final nail in the coffin.

To me, the train station was iconic. I met my dad there when he came home from WWII. I left from there when I went overseas in 1963.

The Paramount was a place we all went for the Saturday picture shows and serials.
