Going north on 165 to Sterlington, you may notice a large stone cross with a few low headstones around it. This is a family cemetery for a very powerful family in the area during the Civil War and into the turn of the century.
The Phillips family were the owners of the Lonewa plantation in Sterlington, which Lonewa church was named after. To read more about the family, check out their Findagrave memorials I have created here:
