Downtown Monroe in 1947

Neat photo of 3rd Street from the collection of the Ouachita Parish Public Library (photo #534). It is dated January, 1947. You can see Francis Hotel in the distance. On the left is the Monroe Hardware Company and on the right is the F & J Esso Service Station. If you squint real hard, on the left just past the Monroe Hardware Company, you can see the Washington Square Plaza building peeking around the side. Both the Hardware and the Esso station are gone.
