Motorists driving out DeSiard road have been watching with interest the tearing down of an ancient landmark – the old Fennell (sic Tennille) home that has been weathering the storms of many years. Last week witnessed its complete demolition and the clearing of ground ‘neath the spreading branches of the giant oaks for the erection of Mr. and Mrs. John Sherrouse’s handsome new home. The plans, of English style of architecture, have been completed and work will be started at once.
Just a few years ago this section of Monroe was almost a wilderness with immense cotton fields stretching as far as eye could reach. Today the building trend is in that direction and homes have sprung up almost overnight. In every other direction as well as nearby cotton fields are disappearing as fashionable suburbs appear.
Edit: A November 5, 1928 article claims it was built “100 years ago” by Judge Baker, which would be Wesley J.Q. Baker.
