Olin Hall

In late 1966, a large, 11 story dormitory for men was built at Northeast Louisiana State College. The contracted builder was Jesse Heard and Sons. The $2.8 million dorm was designed to house 832 male students and was named in honor of the Olin family, who owned Olin-Mathieson Chemical Corporation in West Monroe. It was Northeast’s first skyscraper dorm. It dominated the sky on campus. The building was finished in early 1968. For generations of students it was the most recognizable building on campus.

On September 25, 2004, Olin Hall was imploded to make way for newer, coed housing. Progress I guess.
