Most who have lived here for a while have heard of the Mohawk Tavern. It is one of the best seafood places in Monroe. It is so good, they don’t even have to advertise! Word of mouth and a loyal customer base keep it going. The place was opened in 1952 (73 years ago this month) by Tom Fontana. The third generation of Fontanas now run it. I highly recommend you try it if you haven’t been there before. It is a great place to take a date! Below is the earliest ad for the restaurant I could find. It appeared in the News Star on January 31, 1952.
