
I have posted a postcard of this Temple before, but from a different angle. It stood on Jackson Street. This one shows the “parsonage” where the Rabbi lived. The ten commandments tablet at the top of the building are still in existence. They are a part of the Archives of the current congregation.
I love the inscription above the entrance, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all people.” It comes from the Old Testament, Isaiah 56:7. The congregation took that literally. There were times when Christian churches needed a place to worship (usually due to fires or other catastrophes) and they were invited in to have their Sunday services inside.
