The above parade of fifth and sixth grade boys was taken in the mid 1930’s on St. John Street. The boys in the band were selected from Sherrouse, Georgia Tucker, Lida Benton and Barkdull Faulk elementary schools. You can see on the right is First Baptist Church and next to it is the old U.S. Post Office. In the background is the Virginia Hotel.
Only six of the boys are identified in an April 6, 1980 article about the photo: “The small boy in short pants with a snare drum is Louis Millner. On Milner’s right is Byron Grisby, also playing a snare drum. Looking unhappy about holding the bass drum (right, next to the flag) is Pete Peevy. The boy on the left holding the sign is Wesley Peters. On the second row from left, third boy from front, is Eddie Holmes. The tall boy with a clarinet and music stand in front is Harold Cloverdale.”
Lora,
I think the one on the back right with hair parted toward the middle is my father – James Bradley.
Would have to look at the original to be sure.
