LOOK OUT FOR HIM! – A letter to the Claiborne Advocate, dated Trenton, La., Oct. 8th, says:
“Our town has been thrown into quite an excitement on account of the disappearance of our deputy postmaster, who left Trenton on Sunday morning – and nothing has been heard of him since. Messrs. Oliver & Drake received a letter from the postoffice by Thursday’s mail, notifying them of the mailing of a package of $4000 in bank bills; and the general impression is, that the aforesaid deputy postmaster has pocketed the money, and left for a la belle France.”
According to the book, Appointments of Postmasters in Louisiana, 12 January 1827 – 28 December 1892, John Thacher was appointed Trenton postmaster on 24 Feb 1855 and Abraham Madden became postmaster on 18 Nov 1856.
