Index to the Monroe Morning World Servicemen’s Edition

This index is for the February 6, 1944 Monroe Morning World Servicemen’s Edition.  In this newspaper, local white men and women serving in the military were profiled with a short biography and picture.  This index gives the name, section of the newspaper they appeared in, the page number in that section, the column on the page and any possible notes.  Sometimes photos of soldiers were included in the ads and those photos are noted as “PHOTO ONLY”.  I have also included if the person was wounded, KIA (DECEASED), MIA or a POW.  One photo of an African American soldier was included in an ad for La Henri-Anna Beauty School & Shoppe, Capt. F.W. Johnson. Use the link below to access the index. To see the actual articles and images, come by the Ouachita Parish Public Library’s Genealogy Department and ask for the microfilm.

  1. Thanks SO much Lora! I’ve worked hard trying to find all the servicemen listed in this particular edition, their obits, where they live, etc. Bonnie
