Old Glory Tourist Sleepers

I bought this postcard from eBay back in September.

This business was located where the Ouachita Valley Federal Credit Union is now. According to newspaper articles, it opened in January 1942. It was owned by Mr. J.L. Warren. There were fifteen units (cabins?) which offered beauty rest mattresses, “modern ventilation” (whatever that means!) and hot and cold running water at all times. I can see articles about the place all the way up until 1954.

  1. I have this same postcard; my grandfather travelled through this area in August 1953 and sent this postcard home to my grandmother (they were only dating at the time) on his way to see his older sister at her husband’s naval base in Pensacola, FL. I have a whole “trail” of postcards from this trip, as he was trying to send home a postmark from every state he travelled through! 😉
