A Parade Down DeSiard, circa 1937.

This last photo from the collection I bought, is a bit of a puzzle. The seller claimed the three photos were from 1937, but the flood photo was 1932. There were a TON of parades going on throughout 1937. It seemed like every convention, rodeo and circus held in the city had to have a parade!

I see F.W. Woolworths and the Palais Royal, which were in the 200 block of DeSiard Street. Across the street on the left and out of the shot is where Jackson Street came in. Looming in the background is the Bernhardt building. You can see the old trolley in the middle of the picture. Some of the men are wearing shirts with “Monroe” across the chest. They are wearing hats that look like the type veterans wear. This along with the flags and bunting makes me think of a veterans parade or an American Legion convention parade. Maybe 4th of July? Some of the men have goats and sheep on leashes!
