The Founders of the Young Catholics’ Friends’ Society of Monroe, Louisiana – 1870

Here is another little gem I found, in the collection of Villanova University in PA. It is the “Articles of Incorporation, Constitution and By-Laws of the Young Catholics’ Friends’ Society of Monroe, Louisiana”. A librarian there was kind enough to scan the little pamphlet and send it to me. One thing I loved was that they established a library for the society, open right after mass on Sunday! It was free to members, but everyone else had to pay 10c a book to check out! Here are the names of the founding members listed in it:

L. Gergaud (C.P.), J. Gentille, Robt. Ray, H. Filhiol, Jno. Vandenberg, P.S. Rolleigh, Jno. Hewson, Richard Fullam, B. Slaven, Thos, Fullam, Henry J. Hewson, S.P. Green, Jos. Pargaud, Thos. I have it printed out at work at my desk. I am not there today, but will be there Thursday and Friday from 9 -6! It isn’t available online anywhere.
