Census Help for the 1940 and 1950 Censuses.

In 2022, the 1950 census will be released. It will be several months before all the names will be indexed by the big databases. When the 1940 census was released in 2012, I remember the frustration of not being able to figure out just where on the census my family could be found. I have just found some maps that may help when the time comes:

The National Archives has digitized Enumeration maps for the 1940 and 1950 census on their website. If you know roughly where your family lived during the census, you can narrow your search! This will help until the name index comes out. I have linked to the Ouachita Parish maps, but they have several other places available. Keep this in the back of your mind until 2022! It just may save you some frustration!

    Hi,
    Your readers should know that we (Steve Morse, Joel Weintraub, and about 80 volunteers) have already put on the One Step site at stevemorse.org tools to locate 1950 census districts by location. Use the Unified Tool in the census section and change the year at the top to 1950. That includes transcribing about 230,000 census definitions for 1950 which are fully searchable by name, and over 2,400 urban area street indexes. For your parish we have transcribed the streets within census districts for 1950 for Monroe.
