Jackson Street circa 1945

Judging by the dress and automobiles, this was taken in the mid to late 1940’s. It shows a view of Jackson Street taken from DeSiard. You can see Monroe city buses lined up next to the Central Savings Bank & Trust Company building. The sign on the front bus says they are going to Bernstein Park. Down the street is the old Woodmen of the World Hall and across Harrison street from it is the Francis Hotel. You can also see St. Mathew Catholic Church peeking out from behind a tree. All the buildings except the WOW Hall are still there.

This actually is the early 1950’s. The Ford automobile behind the buses is either a 1949 or 1950 model.
