Lovers Lane

This is a pretty postcard of "Lovers Lane", aka South Grand Street, around 1940. Notice the catalpa trees that line the street. In a previous article, I told you a fence was created using green catalpa wood. The wood rooted and grew into a "live" fence!

Grand Street Circa 1910

This is a great shot up South Grand Street around 1910. The big pretty white building on the left was built in 1906, the same time the streetcars were put in (you can see one coming down the street.). Unfortunately, the building was torn down in the 1970's.

Riverside Sanitarium

The above hospital stood at 3001 South Grand Street (where the Riverside Nursing Home is now) in the early twentieth century. Don't let the sanitarium part lead you astray. The above photo is a turn of the century photo of Faulk Bros. Groceries & Feed Stuffs store. It was owned by brothers William Clark Faulk and Francis Lamy Faulk. It stood at 518 South Grand Street.
